Williamson County has just celebrated the Grand Opening of a new Animal Center. This center is designed to serve a current county population exceeding 247,000 with projections to double by 2040. The new facility is poised to engage the community in ways that we never have before. The design of this building aims to engage the community through education, support, and free or low-cost programs to assist pet owners, including low-cost spay/neuter services which were not previously offered to residents. Programs like pet food assistance, spay/neuter transport, and free training opportunities are designed to offer solutions to common problems people encounter in pet ownership. In addition to improving our outreach to the human population of our County, our new facility will address health concerns for the shelter residents as well. Ventilation systems that offer ultra-violet sterilization, improved air-flow, true isolation of air in each animal area, and access to natural light for every animal, as well as human work spaces, will improve not only the work environment for employees but the mental health and well-being of animals while in our care.
