Mecklenburg County’s CIP Mapping System provides one-stop access to all major capital improvement project information and proposed 10-year expenditures via an easy to use website. It gathers departmental and multi-agency capital improvement information from various sources and conveniently presents it within a single application for general public use. The system provides a very easy-to-use interface and reports all requested and approved Capital Improvement Project information at a glance. The website utilizes the Google Maps API for its mapping presentation. Mecklenburg County now has over 14 GIS Information Systems Internet applications, and all of them were written for a specific purpose. The public is often redirected from one of these applications to another. The development of the Capital Improvements Project Mapping System was a 9-month, coordinated effort by the County’s Budget and SOI Group in the County Manager’s Office, the County’s Information Services and Technology Department, and the County’s Enterprise Geospatial Information Services Group to consolidate Capital Improvement project information and disseminate the information electronically via the web to all interested tax-paying citizens.
