The Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District (District) launched the Bar and Restaurant Recycling Program in 2010. This free program provides establishments in Hamilton County, Ohio with the resources necessary to begin recycling or improve recycling practices at their bar or restaurant. The District helps with technical assistance in setting up the recycling program and coordination of recycling services. Establishments also receive indoor collection containers, education for employees and promotional support. The Bar and Restaurant Recycling Program in Hamilton County, Ohio has been very successful. Approximately 60 establishments have started recycling through the program. An additional 20 started on their own and the District provided promotional support with We Recycle Here decals and inclusion on the list of participating establishments on the website. The District has distributed nearly 200 indoor collection containers. Additionally, other cities and counties from both Ohio and across the country have contacted Hamilton County to ask about the Bar and Restaurant Recycling Program. A solid waste district located just north of Hamilton County even mimicked the program in their jurisdiction.
