The San Bernardino County Probation Department’s mission is “to protect the community through assessment, treatment, and control of adult and juvenile offenders by providing a range of effective services based on legal requirements and recognized professional standards.” One of the challenges that a field officer faces is maximizing time while effectively supervising offenders on their caseload. With this in mind, the Probation Department Automated Systems Unit created a mapping program that provides Probation Officers a tool to manage and control their caseloads efficiently and effectively. This mapping application integrates with the department’s case management system and allows officers to locate offenders using a variety of identifying criteria and then maps efficient routes in order to manage their time in the field.
