Broward county developed the Automated External Defibrilator (AED) Program with the intention of saving the lives of those individuals who suffer sudden cardiac arrest while on County property. The program makes use of the latest AED technology in order to provide the necessary care to citizens when and if they do happen to suffer a sudden cardiac arrest. One of the challenges that the program faced early on was determining which of the county government agencies would house the devices, in order to maximize their utility and also provide for efficient maintainence. The successful implimentation and mamagement of this program required the use of cutting edge technology, as well as the cooperation of everyone in Broward County Government - inculding the Broward County Sheriff's Office. Since the program's inception, over 200 AED devices have been installed throughout the County, at such locatons as courthouses, libraries, and the Airport. The program has saved over twenty lives over the last four years, and it continues to provide a service that benefits both the public and the employees of Broward County.
