Alameda County, Calif., CA

About the Program

Category: Information Technology (Best in Category)

Year: 2009

Like most other counties, Alameda County may be required to support multiple elections every year. This entails managing a large number of election equipment movements in a very short period of time. The validation and security of voting devices being transported between polling locations and consolidation/distribution points is a time consuming process and one that can be critical to finalizing voting results. To enhance these processes, Alameda County developed a Radio Frequency Identification system to improve the “chain of custody” for voting equipment and to speed up the collection of election results.
