About the Program
Category: Libraries (Best in Category)
Year: 2019
The Art and Poetry Program, hosted by the Foothills Library (a branch of the Yuma County Library District), is where local artists and poets inspire each other to produce an annual exhibit. The Library was home to a well-established writers group and a new and vibrant poetry circle. Therefore, in 2015, library staff developed this program to promote collaboration between these two groups and bring an accessible art and poetry exhibit to Yuma County. Poets submit their work and artists are called to create their work, inspired by one of the poems. Each year these roles are reversed between these two groups. The collaborative journey of these groups culminate in an annual exhibit and an Art and Poetry Magazine, which is published by The Friends of the Foothills Library. Space is limited to 40 collaborations of artists and poets. This new program engages community members of all backgrounds, encourages artistic and cultural experiences, and promotes community involvement by allowing them to vote for their favorite collaboration.
