County employees remain highly productive as they leave their desks to meet and collaborate with others on the go, to meet business where it happens. Mobile technology helps to make this possible. The Alameda Countyâs Youth Outreach Program provided the vehicle for our summer interns to leverage technology to provide a solution for employees running to catch the County shuttle for their next meeting. The ALCO Shuttle App is used by employees to get information needed to ride the shuttle between County Buildings while they are on the go. From an employeeâs mobile device, they can find schedules, routes, pick up points, maps and get announcements if service delays occur. This app was developed by high school interns over the summer of 2013, working in the Countyâs Information Technology Department. It is a public site so employees can access needed information while away from the County network. There are shuttle routes across the County in three separate regions where County buildings are clustered. The shuttle app allows riders to plan a trip between County buildings on different shuttle routes by integrating the schedule of the public subway system, BART, with the schedule of the shuttles.
