About the Program

Category: Civic Education and Public Information (Best in Category)

Year: 2018

In order to complement the Maricopa County Air Quality Department’s (MCAQD) robust and pervasive school curriculum program for K-5 and middle school students in Maricopa County, MCAQD has designed and implemented a stand-alone tool to supplement air quality education efforts. With a growing emphasis on citizen science, these air quality educational kiosks provide residents and visitors information not previously available about air quality in their neighborhoods. At the heart of the kiosk initiative is a small, localized air quality monitoring device that displays nearby air quality data in a friendly and relevant format. The MCAQD air quality educational kiosks provide a visual and interactive display for children and families to learn about the importance of air quality.
