In 2017, the Harrison County Assessor’s Office in Clarksburg, West Virginia, was faced with some challenges. How could the office make itself more accessible to the older citizens as well as the residents with disabilities? How could they make sure almost every person in the county had access to the services the Assessor’s Office provides? How could the office gain the trust of the citizens with a newly elected Assessor? These questions and more kept resurfacing in the mind of Joseph R. “Rocky” Romano, 2016 elect Assessor of Harrison County West Virginia. With the help of the Harrison County Sheriff’s/Tax Office and 2016 elect Sheriff Robert Matheny, the answer came easily. Collaborating together, the goal was decided to provide assistance with Individual Personal Property assessments, tax payments for personal property and/or real estate, WV State Farm Census, and new Homestead/Disability Exemption applications at different satellite locations all across Harrison County. With detailed planning and organization, this goal has turned into a reality.
