About Moises 'Mo' Castillo

Moises Castillo currently serves as the Deputy Lead Field Coordinator (DLFC) for U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) Region IX. This system is based on the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) structure and was activated to plan and prepare for a Southwest Border (SWB) Mass Irregular Migration, allowing for a single, unified response within a region. As the DLFC, Mr. Castillo assists the Lead Field Coordinator (LFC) with operational oversight of all Office of Field Operations (OFO) Field Offices and Border Patrol (BP) Sectors within California and Arizona, working closely with executive leadership in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). DLFC M. Castillo began his career with the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) in March 2000, class number 428; his assigned duty location was in the El Centro Sector. In 2002, he joined CBP’s subcomponent OFO, where he was assigned to the San Diego Field Office (SDFO). In April 2007, he graduated from OFO’s first National Special Response Team (SRT) Basic Selection Course, “Class I”. He conducted missions, training, and provided support to foreign government officials; including the participation of several domestic and international deployments to include Mexico, Panama, and El Salvador. In 2009, DLFC M. Castillo was promoted to Supervisory Customs and Border Protection Officer (SCBPO) at the San Ysidro (SYS) Port of Entry (POE) and served as the Acting National Commander for SRT at OFO Headquarters, In March of 2013, DLFC M. Castillo was promoted to Branch Chief (BC) at the Otay Mesa (OTM) POE and in November 2014 was promoted to Watch Commander (WC) at the SYS POE. In 2018, DLFC M. Castillo served as the Acting (A) Assistant Director of Border Security (ADBS) for the SDFO. His responsibilities included oversight of the overall planning, directing, and timely execution of Border Security Programs such as the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), Integrated Border Intelligence Group (IBIG), Joint Task Force-West (JTF-W), Confidential Human Source (CHS) program, Tactical Terrorism Response Team (TTRT), and SRT. Most recently, prior to his appointment as DLFC, Mr. Castillo served as Acting (A) Port Director (PD) at the SYS POE, where he was responsible for the oversight of the largest and busiest POE in the United States, maintaining engagement with internal and external stakeholders to improve protocols and procedures during migration surges.
