About Joanne Pierce
Joanne Pierce currently serves as Durham County Government’s General Manager for Health and Well-being for All. The Health and Well-Being for All is Goal 2 of five strategic plan areas of focus for Durham County Government. Health and well-being focused on ensuring that all Durham residents have access, opportunity, and the resources to thrive. Ms. Pierce’s county portfolio includes Public Health, Social Services, Veteran Services, Cooperative Extension, Community Intervention and Support Services, the county Libraries, and liaison to Alliance Health. In addition, Ms. Pierce also oversees the racial equity work to integrate racial and social justice principles and practices to address inequities with the goal of improving outcomes for everyone. She brings 20 years of experience working with health and human services, local health departments, and other public and private agencies and organizations. She has had a very unique experience of leading two state offices of minority health in North Carolina and Texas and has served in leadership positions with national nonprofit organizations including the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and National Epilepsy Foundation. She has a master of public health from Howard University College of Medicine, a master of arts in counseling from Trinity University and a bachelor of science in psychology from Howard University.
