Joanne Pierce

Deputy Public Health Director, Durham County, N.C.

Joanne Pierce has served as Deputy Public Health Director since December 2014. Ms. Pierce is as a resource for the department to advance equity by integrating racial and social justice principles and practices in order to address health inequities. She brings twenty years of experience working with health and human services, local health departments, and other public and private agencies and organizations. She has had a very unique experience of leading two state offices of minority health in North Carolina and Texas and has served in leadership positions with national nonprofit organizations including the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and National Epilepsy Foundation. She has a master of public health from Howard University College of Medicine, a master of arts in counseling from Trinity University and a bachelor of science in psychology from Howard University.
