About Jeff Birnbach

Jeff has over 30 years of experience at the forefront of emerging digital technologies. From developing software for the first IBM PCs, and the earliest incarnations of voice recognition, through the launch of endoscopic surgery and HDTV to leading-edge cyber investigations and eDiscovery, he’s had a front-row seat for the proliferation (and exploitation) of digital technology for over three decades.

In his current role as Managing Director and a Senior Partner at Sylint, he oversees a variety of client engagements including incident response, cyber extortion, criminal investigation, eDiscovery, litigation intelligence, and consulting. He’s handled numerous cyber extortion (ransomware) investigations and negotiations dealing with threat actors across the globe, as well as directed a wide range of investigations addressing ransomware, bank fraud, payment theft, email hijacking, tax and identity fraud, cyberstalking, data breaches, and intellectual property theft.

Birnbach frequently advises public officials, corporate boards, attorneys, insurers, investors, and other stakeholders on key aspects of cyber security, risk management, and operational continuity/disaster recovery, and has directed investigations on behalf of law enforcement agencies and government entities when they have been targeted victims.

A licensed Private Investigator, Jeff has conducted presentations and briefings to a wide range of groups including the U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM), U.S. Secret Service – Electronic Crimes Task Force, FBI InfraGard, and the American Bar Association, as well as conducted training seminars on cyber-crime investigations for law enforcement officers. He’s an acclaimed expert on cyber extortion and ransomware, frequently assisting government entities and law enforcement agencies throughout the United States with investigations, negotiations, and data recovery.

Jeff also provides expert services in state and federal court cases, helping parties understand the significance and impact of digital data. As a consultant to counsel, he provides strategic guidance on identifying and collecting evidentiary data and insight as to how that data can be used to effectively impact the outcome of a case. He is a Florida licensed private investigator, a member of the Florida Association of Licensed Investigators (FALI), and an associate member of the American Bar Association (ABA). Jeff has been repeatedly interviewed for print media and TV, making numerous on-air appearances to provide context and commentary on developing news stories related to cybercrime and the nefarious exploitation of evolving technologies.
