Hon. Matt Ryan

Supervisor Ryan is currently serving his seventh term as District 3 Supervisor and served as Chair of the Board of Supervisors in 1999, 2003, 2006, 2009, 2014, 2017, and 2021. District 3 includes the City of Williams, portions of the City of Flagstaff, part of the City of Sedona, as well as several unincorporated areas of southwestern Coconino County. Supervisor Ryan was born in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania in 1957. He is the fifth of ten children. He moved to Flagstaff in 1982, and currently resides in the unincorporated community of Mountain Dell. He actively served in the United States Marine Corps from 1975 to 1978. In 1986, Supervisor Ryan received a Bachelors of Science and Secondary Teaching Certification from Northern Arizona University. He previously worked for a bio-technology corporation, with Flagstaff Arboretum in an educational capacity, and as free-lance writer. He also started a small business making recreation trail maps. Supervisor Ryan works with the Board of Supervisors and County Manager to establish administrative policy and direction for the County and provides budgetary oversight for the County budget to ensure County revenues are expended within established guidelines effectively and efficiently. His efforts include working with residents on community building, resolving problems, and communicating with County staff.
