About Andrew Quarnstrom
In March 2022, the National Association of Local Boards of Health (NALBOH) President, John Novak, DMD, announced that Andrew Quarnstrom will be the organization’s new Executive Director. Quarnstrom brings over 25 years of experience in public health as paramedic and chief officer with the Champaign, Illinois fire department. In addition, Quarnstrom has served as the Township Supervisor in Champaign, Illinois since 2013 as well as a board member with the Champaign Urbana Public Health District. Quarnstrom brings institutional knowledge to his new position as he has previously served the NALBOH association as a board member for the last four years and most recently sat as past president of the NALBOH Board. “The opportunity to lead NALBOH in the newly created Executive Director position is truly exciting. The importance of public health and boards of public health have been brought to the forefront during the COVID-19 pandemic and the opportunities for our boards and health departments are immense. I welcome the challenges associated with leading this great organization and its thousands of boards of health members across the country. I’m inspired by those in public health that have been battling the pandemic for over two years and will use that inspiration to continue to work and advocate for not only our members but for public health in it’s entirety”. Quarnstrom has an associate degree in emergency medical services and a bachelor’s in business administration with a concentration in public administration from Southern New Hampshire University. The NALBOH Board welcomes Quarnstrom in this new position and feels confident this is a necessary step to support local health departments as we continue to respond and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. This is crucial to add to leverage board of health member knowledge and expertise to be a part of transforming our public health system with all that we have learned. The voice of boards of health are key to advancing public health priorities as community advocates. NALBOH will continue to work with Badger Bay Management Company in Kimberly, WI, for staffing support, while including Quarnstrom’s role as Executive Director.
