More than 350 counties have passed a resolution to join Stepping Up: A National Initiative to Reduce the Number of People with Mental Illnesses in Jails. To support counties in their efforts, NACo is hosting a two-part Stepping Up Summit to provide counties with the tools and resources they need to further their initiatives. Part Two will highlight policies, practices and programs that counties have implemented along four key measures: the number of people with mental illnesses booked into their jail, the length of stay of people with mental illnesses, connections to treatment and recidivism.
