In February 2022, drug manufacturer Johnson & Johnson and three major distributors (McKesson, Cardinal Health and AmerisourceBergen) finalized multi-litigant settlements over their roles in the opioid crisis. The $26 billion award was nearly doubled from the original base payout in large part due to the action and participation of local governments.
