Z-NET Public is an interactive, web-based mapping application that allows its users to easily obtain zoning and land use information for properties located within unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. For properties outside the County's jurisdiction, Z-NET Public provides links to contact information for the applicable city. No expertise in using mapping systems is required as the application is simple to use, yet powerful enough to benefit County residents and planning professionals alike. Z-NET Public reduces the number of basic property inquiries directed to the Department of Regional Planning (DRP) Land Development Coordinating Center (LDCC, or "public counter') and its community field offices. It relieves residents the burden of calling or traveling to DRP offices - potentially encountering lengthy wait times - simply to make a basic inquiry. With Z-NET Public, there is no wait; instead, County residents experience improved service and cost avoidance. Z-NET Public employs an inexpensive, established technology, and took just less than three months to develop. As the model for other planned online application upgrades, Z-NET Public represents the future of low-cost adaptability to changing business needs.
