Because of workers’ compensation premium costs which appeared to be too high, the county began a plan to correct the situation. The plan consisted of developing and implementing a program which would not only reduce the cost of the insurance premium, but also to reduce the pain and suffering of employees injured in workplace accidents. The project was begun in April of 2010 and following the development of the program, implementation was completed in December of 2013. A safety coordinator has been designated; a comprehensive safety program has been designed and implemented, including a working safety committee to assist in the continuation of the program; workplace incidents have been reduced; and the savings incurred are greater than the cost of developing and implementing the program. Thus, the goals of the program were met.
