About the Program

Category: Risk and Emergency Management (Best in Category)

Year: 2012

In 2006, the California Department of Insurance instituted the requirement for certified workers compensation claims adjusters to take continuing education credits. In response, the County of Riverside has developed an In-house Training Program designed specifically for Workers’ Compensation. This program increases the knowledge level for the claims adjuster and staff, and provides custom lectures and tools that result in the effective management of claims. Through the program, the County can eliminate the cost of expensive outside training programs ($9,450 annually), empower adjusters to make effective decisions that result in lower cost-per-claim, and offer higher quality training for the staff while meeting the California Department of Insurance continuing education requirements. As a result, the County’s cost-per-claim is 14% below other counties in the region, illustrating the success in claims management by competent and educated claims adjusters.
