About the Program

Category: Information Technology (Best in Category)

Year: 2015

As a centralized service agency, the Macomb County Information Technology (IT) Department hosts information systems for more than 30 lines of business throughout the various departments of the County. In March 2015, Macomb County completed a public web site conversion project that included the creation of an open‐source system with a customized design and content management system for all of its departments and units to use. Developed entirely in‐house, the IT Department worked with the rest of the County to re‐create all of the nearly 4,000 pages to this new platform. The old web site hadn’t been redesigned in over 10 years, and the content management system was so old that it no longer worked and couldn’t be fixed. The result has been the launch of a new modern design that is more mobile‐friendly, easier to navigate, and enables County departments to manage their own content updates. This was done at minimal cost as a result of using staff resources and a free system.
