Year: 2013

Wake County Government launched a new public website at www.wakegov.com this past year. More than just a fresh look, the County’s new website is an innovative approach, with design considerations for both mobile device and traditional computer users. The new site project was completed in nine months using only Wake County staff and no external resources or contractors. The building of the new site was a collaborative effort with all departments and it incorporated feedback from our citizens. The WakeGOV site receives more than 9 million visits and 21 million page views a year. It connects our citizens to important program information and online services. The site also promotes government transparency with easy access to data, such as our WATCH accountability section that allows citizens to view how their tax-dollars are used by viewing financial transaction details. The award-winning WakeGOV site was recently audited by the Sunshine Review and received the one of the highest transparency grades in the nation, and the highest in North Carolina, with an “A” rating.
