The Suffolk County Veterans Service Agency hosted the first Veterans Employment Fair in October, 2008. The Suffolk County Veterans Service Agency worked along with forty agencies from the federal, state, county, and non-profit levels to provide services to unemployed job seeking veterans. Local merchants, department stores, grocery stores, banks, and temporary staffing agencies with employment openings were on-hand to offer these jobs to qualified veterans attending the Employment Fair. Resume writing, job search strategies, and interview workshops were scheduled and presented by attending agencies to veterans needing assistance in those particular areas. Employment and job training assistance were offered by the companies looking to give these veterans a chance to become self-supporting again.
