The Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) developed the Two-Way Gram (TWG) Application to automate the manual process of tracking corrective actions taken on In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) cases. The IHSS Program is a statewide program administered by each county under the direction of the California Department of Social Services. It helps pay for personal care services provided to low-income elderly, blind and disabled individuals, including children, so they can remain safely in their own home.Select IHSS cases are reviewed by departmental staff to monitor compliance and program integrity to ensure recipients receive the proper care they need. When corrective actions are needed on IHSS cases, such as incorrect number of hours, a two-way gram is generated via the automated TWG Application system. The TWG Application generates automatic emails which notify social workers of potential actions required due to incorrect service hours, overdue case actions, case terminations or fraud referrals. Additionally, the application generates worklists and reports, which make the case review process more efficient. The TWG Application offers an innovative solution to a manual case review process and creates a more efficient system to better serve the public and safeguard program integrity.
