Miami Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department (PROS) has implemented a Transition Project for high school participants with intellectual disabilities. The purpose of the project is to assist these youth and their families in creating a plan for life after high school. The Transition Project includes four elements; Financial Seminars for families, a compilation of all job readiness and vocational programs in Miami Dade County in one document, a Transition Assessment, and a paid internship program. PROS partner in the Transition Project is the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD), a state agency that funds job coaches and the paid internship. Transition Project outcomes include: ⢠40 families have been educated at financial seminars, ⢠nearly fifty Transition Assessments have been completed, ⢠nine youth participated in paid PROS internships ⢠four interns are currently in the hiring process.
