About the Program

Category: County Resiliency (Best in Category)

Year: 2017

The County of San Diego is leading the region with its Electric Vehicle (EV) program. This multi-phase program includes, (1) developing a public and staff focused EV network at key County locations, (2) developing a fleet focused EV network at large County facilities and (3) expediting the acquisition of electric vehicles into the County fleet. Upon completion, more than 130 EV charging ports will be available for use by the public, County staff and County Fleet vehicles. Additionally, as charging ports are installed to serve the County Fleet, an aggressive conversion of fleet vehicles will begin, resulting in over 50 vehicles being converted in just the first year. This program is possible due to a unique relationship between the County and our local utility, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), allowing much of the infrastructure to be installed at no cost to the County and much more quickly than would otherwise be possible. Once complete, the County of San Diego will have the largest fleet EV network in the region.
