The Westchester County Parks Staff Conference Day took place on Tuesday, February 3, 2016 at the Westchester County Center in White Plains. The day brings together more than 280 parks staff who work at some 50 work sites across the county for a day of professional staff development and training, personal enrichment and friendly camaraderie, and to provide a sense of unity among our staff, along with a reaffirmation of our mission and pride in our goals and accomplishments. A motivational speaker kicked off the day’s events, followed by three different workshop sessions of interest to the staff ranging from health and wellness issues and historical aspects of our park system to creating an awareness of cyber threats and the value of teamwork. Breakfast and lunch were served, and a staff photo was taken of all employees that would be distributed to all major facilities and posted in the office as a reminder of conference day. The day’s program culminated with a presentation by our commissioner reviewing accomplishments from the past year and outlining challenges and goals for the upcoming year. While attendance is mandatory, the staff enthusiastically anticipates the Staff Conference Day as a way to reconnect with their co-workers, become informed about programs and projects in the department, and they take pride in belonging to and being a productive member of Westchester County Parks.
