The County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation opened the first Americans with Disabilities Act Fitness Walkway in the San Diego County parks system with eight universal outdoor exercise stations to people of all ages and abilities at the Spring Valley Community Park. In addition to the universal exercise equipment stations, the ADA walkway also offers shaded, bench style rest stops along the .7 mile walkway. The Spring Valley Community Center ADA Fitness Walk serves as a focal point brining neighbors together for shared outdoor fitness activities. The project was funded by a $200,000 Community Development Block Grant for the concrete walkway with durable outdoor gymnasium equipment necessary for a full-body workout. From a leisurely walk to an intense workout, this walkway is frequently and consistently used by Spring Valley residents. Young children, teenagers, elderly, and disabled children and adults now have access to fitness equipment that was traditionally available only through expansive gymnasium memberships.
