The Southern California Fire Project was developed and implemented in response to the Southern California Fires of October 2007 in which approximately 28,500 acres in Orange County, including public lands, were damaged or destroyed. The Southern California Fire Project is a collaborative effort among Orange County Community Services, Orange County Workforce Investment Board, Orange County Parks, and Orange County Public Works to provide clean-up of and restoration to the fire-affected public areas. At project end date in June, 2009, 145 dislocated workers or long-term unemployed older youth will have engaged in temporary work to provide the clean-up and restoration activities.
