SEALS is an after-school program for elementary school-aged children with visual impairments including blindness. The general goals of the program include socialization, empowerment, and life skills forming the acronym SEALS. The program was first offered in March 2008 as a partnership between the Therapeutic Recreation Division of Mecklenburg County Park and the North Carolina Parent of Blind Children. The program included weekly activities such as social games, arts and crafts, and music therapy, introduction to sport activities, empowerment curriculum, reading, and homework assistance. The after-school program meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm and follows the public school calendar of Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.
