The County of San Diego has joined forces with a local non-profit organization, the Children’s Initiative, to produce a ground-breaking document aimed at enhancing the lives of local children and their families. Now in its 8th edition, the Sand Diego County Report Card on Children and Families has become a universally accepted tool for local community engagement. It is also used by local governments, school districts, and community-based organizations to develop budget and planning documents for critical children’s programs. The Report Card provides comprehensive, reliable data on the health and well-being of children and families in the region and identifies service gaps that need to be addressed by the community. It also highlights best-practices in prevention and intervention programs, and recommends specific changes focusing on underserved populations. Because this data is now routinely shared among many local organizations, the Report Card facilitates community collaboration and coordination of resources to better the lives of local children.
