About the Program

Category: Risk and Emergency Management (Best in Category)

Year: 2017

The San Diego County Fire Authority, through its Fire Prevention Division, has developed and implemented a regional Fire Prevention Program that is a vital component of our County’s emergency services delivery system. These services are available to serve not only citizens located in the Fire Authority’s primary area of responsibility, but also, by design, other local fire and water agencies that provide fire services within the County of San Diego. One of the primary objectives of the program is to streamline the business practices of several independent fire agencies as well as the County, to increase efficiency and maximize cost savings opportunities for taxpayers. By leveraging the collective resources of multiple agencies, the County can provide amplified services at reduced costs that are not possible for the County or the smaller agencies to provide independently. Additional program objectives are to standardize the interpretation and application of fire code requirements regionally and to deliver common fire safety messaging to the public. This provides a consistent standard for identifying the acceptable level of risk in our communities irrespective of jurisdictional boundaries which increases public and firefighter safety and also enhances our ability to successfully instill a “culture of fire safety” in our communities.
