Year: 2022
To provide economic support to help businesses in the unincorporated area recover from COVID-19âs economic impacts, the San Diego County (County) Board of Supervisors (Board) began taking actions to provide financial relief to support a struggling business community that had suffered closures and downturns. In May 2020 it approved $250,000 to establish a revitalization and assistance grant program for businesses and commercial property owners to make permanent improvements to the front exterior of their existing businesses, including painting, lighting, adding outdoor workspace or dining areas, and minor landscaping. Each grant was for up to $8,000 and to date 15 successful applicants have completed their projects, for a total of $97,985. Another 26 business projects are pending completion. In addition to assisting the individual businesses with exterior improvements, the Boardâs goal was to contribute to the local economy, create a positive visual impact for all in the neighborhood, increase foot traffic for all businesses and increase community enjoyment and pride.
