REFS/Maps is a program that integrates two of Arlington County Government’s web-based applications, Real Estate Filing System (REFS) and Interactive Mapping (IM), to produce a powerful tool for researching the County’s archived real estate agreements. REFS is a web-based cataloging and reporting system; IM is a web-based GIS mapping system. REFS/Maps integrates the two existing County systems such that every County archived real estate agreement that is entered into REFS appears as a point on a map layer in IM. Each agreement’s point is located on the area of real property associated with that agreement. Different agreement types are represented on the map as different point symbols. Clicking on a point in IM allows the user to obtain a synopsis of that particular agreement in IM, including the location of the physical file, as well as a link to the more detailed information in REFS.
