About the Program

Category: Human Services (Best in Category)

Year: 2011

The Pike County Long-Term Recovery Committee provides outreach workers to families and individuals with the formal assistance that they need to recover from a disaster – particularly the devastating flash floods that the County faced in July 2010. Each outreach worker evaluates their client’s needs, reviews what relief, if any, the client has already received, and determines whether the client has registered for FEMA assistance. The Outreach worker then provides information about what is needed to proceed further. The final stage puts the client on the path to returning to a normal life by referring them to appropriate assistance services, acting as an advocate for the client’s interests if necessary.
