MeckFlora provides a new service to county residents in the form of a searchable database of all known plants within Mecklenburg County, along with photographs and basic information for each plant. Park and Recreation properties with natural areas have been inventoried to create plant lists that are searchable by a number of characteristics: park location, scientific or common name of the plant, plant type, flower color, and whether the plant is native or non-native. This website also provides a valuable training tool for Park and Recreation educational staff who need a working familiarity with plants to conduct educational programs for the public and answer basic questions.
