The Orange County Registrar of Voters’ Vote Center Lab is the first of its kind in the United States of America, and it has been acknowledged by the California Secretary of State, national election experts, and other election officials for its innovativeness and creativity. The Vote Center Lab serves as a fully functional permanent replica of an in-person voting location and was built to serve multiple purposes in a controlled environment. The completion of the Vote Center Lab could not have come at a better time as the Orange County Registrar of Voters prepared for the November 3, 2020 Presidential General Election under COVID-19 modifications and precautions. The ability to improve election operations in a controlled environment allowed the office to develop optimal solutions to the unprecedented challenges posed in administering a historic presidential general election during a global pandemic.
