Roanoke County developed the OneView application as a new professional grade, location-aware, mobile application that streamlines access to GIS data through an intuitive and accessible platform. This improved access and increased transparency promotes engagement and helps foster informed decision making by government and its citizens. The application was developed with contemporary methods and designed according to the asynchronous module definition and Model View patterns that leverage Knockout JS and Twitter Bootstrap libraries. The result is a solution that is easily maintained by in-house staff and allows the County to leverage other free and commercial technologies in conjunction with County-owned GIS data. The County now delivers rich GIS content using Esri’s ArcGIS Platform, Google StreetView, and Pictometry in a single flexible and intuitive application.
