The Ryan White Part A Planning Council, the Ryan White Part D Consumer Advisory Board (CAB), and the Arizona Statewide HIV Advisory Group (SWAG) are community based planning bodies who provide direction and guidance to the federally funded programs who provide HIV services in Arizona. These planning bodies identified a need for enhanced leadership development among their members to fully engage in the newly mandated Statewide HIV Integrated Planning process. Based on the stakeholders input, an HIV Leadership Academy was developed and implemented, with over 30 community members completing the academy in 2015. Feedback from the participants confirmed the Academy met the leadership development goals established by the planning bodies. Following the completion of the academy, the Planning Council, CAB, and the SWAG are fully engaged in the Arizona HIV Integrated Planning process, which will define the goals, objectives, and strategies which will be implemented as part of the efforts to effectively end the HIV epidemic in Arizona by 2021. The HIV Leadership Academy will continue to be utilized in the future to further support the planning bodies’ needs for increased knowledge, skills and abilities as they continue the mission to support the state and county HIV programs.
