Clackamas County, Oregon, encompasses nearly 1,900 square miles in the Portland area, with approximately 420,000 residents. The county is both urban and rural with a varied landscape including valleys, hills, rivers and Mt. Hood. The Clackamas County Motor Carrier Safety Program (MCSP) was recreated in February 2016 in the county’s Department of Transportation and Development to ensure the safety of the motoring public, and protect and preserve the infrastructure of Clackamas County’s 1,400 miles of roads and 186 bridges. It was also re-established to promote commercial motor carrier safety and security by providing leadership to the motor carrier industry and policy makers with respect, professionalism, integrity, and teamwork. The MCSP issues commercial vehicle permits, and inspects and weighs vehicles with a gross weight of over 10,000 pounds for county roads and for all of Oregon. The commercial vehicle inspection program helps make the roads safer for our residents and everyone who travels in and through Clackamas County. MCSP employs two weighmasters and a permit specialist. The lead weighmaster is also the program coordinator. Both weighmasters are Level 1 certified truck inspectors through the Oregon Department of Transportation, but are not sworn law enforcement officers.
