Year: 2018

MoCo’s Got Talent is an event that draws attention to local teens who have extraordinary visual and performing arts abilities. It is an opportunity for young people to showcase their singing, dancing, performing, and visual art talent while their friends, family, classmates, and other community groups come to show support, learn about arts programs in the county, and enjoy the free show. Middle school and high school students participate in either the performing arts or visual arts category and can win valuable prize packages that include free arts classes, cash and the opportunity to perform or exhibit their work again at local events. The main event is held at the Fillmore Silver Spring, which has played host to many famous performing artists, with professional sound, lighting, judging panel, and an emcee to lead the evening. Recreation utilizes community partnerships and a team of student volunteers to deliver this production. Students who participate experience a boost in self-confidence and many were inspired to use their talents to help others. The students, along with community partners, organized a benefit concert to raise money for recreation departments in Florida and Texas that were hit hard by the 2017 hurricanes.
