In 2014, the Department of Environmental Health (DEH) began development of an electronic field inspection system that would eliminate duplicate data entry, increase data collection efficiency, and leverage business rules to improve data quality. These three essential objectives were met by the eForms, fillable portable document format (PDF) forms that are combined with the Adobe LiveCycle software to extract inspection data and transfer it into DEHâs database. The positive feedback for eForms has been resounding among field inspectors, customers, industry, technology provider and government leaders. The integration of field data collection with DEHâs database now allows inspectors to review key permit information in the field, and validate inspection data they enter into the system. Inspection reports can be emailed to customers, who receive a pristine, legible copy that can be archived and used as reference to improve and maintain compliance. Inspection reports can also be printed in the field, if so desired. With the ability of accessing a library of corrective actions and code citations, eForms provides greater consistency across inspectors, improves data quality and enhances customer service.
