About the Program

Category: County Resiliency (Best in Category)

Year: 2017

MC Swap - "Where good stuff goes to find a new home!" As the name suggests, MC Swap is a program to take usable items and supplies that County departments no longer need and make them available to other County departments. Previously, usable items sat on shelves for years, were disposed, or, were sent to surplus auction where, if sold, generated an insignificant amount of money. MC Swap will take anything - office supplies, ink cartridges, electronics, furniture and more. Items are then posted on our internal website for others to claim. The cost to County departments? Zero, including delivery. From the program start on January 1, 2017 to the end of February 2017, MC Swap made nearly 50 transactions worth an estimated $10,000 in savings to County departments. MC Swap program costs have been kept minimal through planning and coordination. Delivery of items is coordinated through the Risk Recycling program and eliminates nearly all special trips. MC Swap promotes cooperation between departments and assists in helping County departments and taxpayers save money. MC Swap is managed by the Risk Management Department, Environmental Division as a part of their efforts to prevent County waste from ending up in landfills.
