Tarrant County Information Technology is a leader in providing innovative business technology solutions to county departments, residents, and corporate and government partners. The Information Technology Department (ITD) identified an opportunity to transform how courts conduct business by leveraging a new solution of our own design. This solution, dubbed the “MAVerick” (patent pending) is an innovative wireless Mobile Audio/Visual platform that includes an interactive high definition display with audio/visual (A/V) capability replacing outmoded smart boards in the courtrooms. The MAVerick incorporates: • Interactive high definition touch-screen display • Audio and video playback with background noise elimination • Resizing capability for images and documents • On-screen capture and annotation ability of evidence (images and documents) • Whiteboard capability • Remote point to point video conferencing from multiple locations • Wireless and wired network connectivity • External personal device connectivity • Printer connectivity • External AV equipment connectivity • Consistent form and function in each courtroom. The solution provides a high level of engagement by creating dynamic, "real time" interactive presentations with greater visibility for large groups and courtroom personnel. Preserving feedback and annotations, along with, saving and exporting evidentiary notes developed during the courtroom session transforms the courtroom experience. Additionally, the judge and attorney laptops connect to the MAVerick for displaying evidence and court documents. With a built in “kill switch” the presiding judge has ultimate control over what the jury sees within the courtroom. Although originally developed for the Tarrant County Judicial Courts, with nearly forty County leaders looking on, ITD debuted the MAVerick in a training environment to showcase the innovative use of the technology. The MAVerick’s unique capabilities as a mobile platform allow us to leverage it for training and departmental meetings all over the county to truly transform how we conduct business.
