In order to help County employees prepare for a more financially secure retirement, particularly in light of the Public Employees’ Pension Reform Act of 2013 which results in less rich pension benefits for new employees, a compelling one-minute video was developed with a clear call to action – to click on a link and increase their contribution amount. The goal of the video was to encourage employees to increase the amount they contribute to their supplemental defined contribution plan(s) and demonstrate the significant impact that an increase of 1% can have on their retirement nest egg. The video, combined with a similarly themed postcard mailing, resulted in 8,627 participants increasing their contribution rate. The average increase was an impressive 4%.
