Living Artist Concert Series Miami-Dade County, Fl Population: 2,376,014 Miami-Dade County combined learning with the arts in this Living Artist Concert Series. The series is a collaboration of lectures, visual art exhibits, environmental awareness and interpretive programs. Hosted at the Deering Estate in Cutler, the program features faculty from the University of Miami and Florida International University, principal players of regional, national, and international professional orchestras, top youth performers and national/international guest composers The series contains five separate components that embrace art and education. The Performance Artist-in-Residence Program give youth musicians opportunity to explore their discipline in the inspiring surrounding of the Deering Estate. The Greater Miami Youth Symphony joined the Living Artist Concert Series in this program among other leading youth orchestras throughout the county. The Deering Estate Chamber Ensemble is comprised of four individuals from professional orchestras who teach music direction on concert programming using visual and literary artist in residence. In 2008-2009, a collaboration between art and environmental stewardship was displayed called âPeculiar Plants.â The Living Arts Concert component of the Series are concerts held in the Ballroom for 150 guests providing intimate seating, natural acoustics and great environment for environment for the exhibition of related visual art, lectures, environmental awareness, and interpretive programs. The Master Class Program allows students of a particular discipline to be taught by an expert in that field. On Saturday mornings, the Greater Miami Youth Symphony partners with the Living Artist Concert Series in the Youth Preparatory Music Classes and Summer Camp to provide lessons to economically disadvantaged youth on stringed instruments and reading sheet music. This program is offered for children 4 and up and becomes more advanced at higher ages. The K-12 Outreach program is an hour long outreach program where composers teach youth about the roots, creative processes and context of chamber music. The Living Artist Concert Series grew out of the need to combat the major funding cuts to art programs in the county. The program continues to advance and expand. Expansion of the Series has resulted in a 119% increase in attendance. There has also been an increase in collaborations with more local partners. Since inception, the program presented 78 exhibits, 42 collaborative projects and 412 exhibiting artists.
