Many California court branches are on course to realizing a fully “digital court.” In Los Angeles, this goal is evolving through the application of modernized technologies to traditional operational processes. This proves no small feat for a justice system rooted in traditions and practices that changed very little over the last 200 years. Paper was historically at the heart of most judicial processes. Documents were filed in paper; case documents in paper case files. Labor intensive manipulation was required for access. Information can be managed electronically in the 21st century. The capability exists to convert case data into a secure and easily accessible format. The ease and speed with which judicial officers and staff adapted to JBV was prerequisite to the success of the program. JBV proves technology doesn’t have to be intimidating or confusing through an intuitive and straightforward interface. It. As a result, judicial officers and staff are now increasingly conducting courtroom business with this easy-to-use application that is replete with convenient features. JBV eliminates paper clutter, transforms official records into electronic format and reallocates staff to deferred projects. The implementation of JBV advances the most efficient administration of court services to date.
