The Johnson County Arts and Heritage Center will be the new home for the Johnson County Museum. The project is re-purposing an iconic Johnson County landmark, the King Louie ice rink and bowling alley, which opened its doors in 1959, and became a center piece of the suburban community until closing in 2009. The building was purchased by Johnson County Government and is currently being restored and remodeled to house the museum, Park and Recreation theater events, and a permanent early voting location. Though remodeled, the building will maintain its Post World War II architecture and is scheduled to re-open in 2017 as a new destination for celebrating the arts and our history in Johnson County. Project partners including the city of Overland Park, the Overland Park Historical Society and other community organizations in partnership with Johnson County Government, Johnson County Museum and Johnson County Park & Recreation District.
