Four years ago the San Bernardino County Library developed a Digital Library Card application through the homepage of the library website. Customers would register online and within 3-5 days receive an email with their new Digital Library Card information. This delay in receiving their Digital Library Card information discouraged usage. With a need and desire to better serve our residents, the San Bernardino County Library redeveloped the application process to instantly provide Digital Library Cards to customers following a new shortened application online. This new process streamlined the customer’s experience and increased card signups and usage at a substantial rate with no additional cost to the County Library other than the investment of staff time and coordination with the department’s digital content and library database vendors to make the new application functional.
