Year: 2015

We live in an increasingly digital world where people expect to interact in a secure electronic environment that is easier and faster to use. That expectation has extended to the public sector; residents and business partners now anticipate accessing county services via streamlined technology. In order to do so, Hennepin County needed an enterprise-wide identity platform that standardized internal access for all county entities and allowed for external access outside of the county network. The Identity & Access Management (IAM) project created a web-based self-service IDM solution that was universal, internal as well as external, secure, user-friendly, and efficient. Residents and service providers can now safely register, access, manage and use account information and passwords whether they are in an office or in the field using mobile devices – smartphones, tablets, etc. – or other non-county, personal devices; basically when and where it is needed. The level of integration required for this effort has helped forge a new way of moving forward as one Hennepin County. The IAM project highlights how effective collaboration between Information Technology and lines of business can deliver innovative, business-driven solutions that align with Hennepin County’s eGov strategy and brand, and opened the door for future innovation and public stewardship.
